Luca Gruber is a German designer currently living in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. His practice spans from furniture and lighting to watches and jewellery, in a continuous dialogue between craftsmanship excellence, traditional manufacturing techniques and refined material choices. His poetic exploration of materials is inspired by mythological and anthropological imagery.
The Crepuscular Dining Table is made from cherry wood, veneer, glass and brass and combines traditional manufacturing with precision technology. All wooden parts are CNC-machined through a 5-axis robotic arm and masterfully finished by the carpentry workshop Kumpusch in Gleinstätten. The glass elements instead were water-cut, partly mirrored, and assembled through laminating at Gustav van Treeck Hofglasmalerei. They were designed with a trompe-l’oeil effect to mimic a stained glass window; a coloured screen-printed foil was applied on the surface to create the impression of golden veins. Gruber was inspired by the spiritual quality of the woodlands and the powerful image of light filtering through a canopy of leaves in a forest.
